  • Full School Closure

    Sat 09 Jan 2021 MP

    Dear Parents/Carers

I am afraid that we are having to implement a full school closure next week. Remote learning will be available for all pupils during this time. Hopefully we will re-open on Monday 18th January 2021

    Kind Regards,

    Helen McLenahan

    Headteacher

  • School will be open on the 5th of January 2021

    Mon 04 Jan 2021 MP

Following the announcement made by the Prime Minister I feel you needed a response to clarify the situation for Moor Hey. As we will not be able to contact the transport team now to make any changes and some parents will already have work commitments for tomorrow which means that they may not be able to arrange childcare at such short notice, school will be open tomorrow for those children who parents choose to send in.

We will tomorrow draw up a plan for Wednesday onwards which will be in place up until half-term (subject to no further changes) which will have a reduced number of pupils (and therefore staff) attending. This will be shared with you by the end of the school day tomorrow.

On behalf of the Government I apologise for the added stress this situation will be causing people, as ever we will act in everyone's best interests at Moor Hey.

Thank you for your continued support.

  • Letter for parents 4th January 2021

    Mon 04 Jan 2021

    4th January 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers,

After writing to you on New Year’s Day and putting the letter and the revised risk assessment on the school website, following a weekend of much further confusion in the media, I felt it important to write to you again.

Understandably there is an increased concern about the COVID-19 variant and increasing R number in some areas as well as Lancashire being placed into Tier 4 last week. It was hoped that the vaccination and testing programme would be further along which I am sure would give everyone some peace of mind, but that is not currently the case.

As all of our young people are vulnerable and we know that they make less progress when at home even with remote learning being provided we have endeavoured to remain open to support our children and their families. We have revised our risk assessment which is on the website, but have only made minor changes due to already having a robust and clear plan in place.

We will continue to work within the Government and Local Authority guidance in the best interests of our pupils. I need to say a very big thank-you on this particular occasion to the staff at Moor Hey, who, when contacted yesterday to check that they were willing to come to work amidst this uncertainty were fully supportive of the pupils returning to school. Without their commitment to the children and compliance with the risk assessment this would not have been possible. At a time when there is a lot of negative press about school staff generally (some of which is valid), we also need to appreciate those professionals who continue to support children and young people. I am sure that you as parents and carers will reiterate this appreciation to the staff too.

We will, as any matters change, be in touch and in the meantime if you have any questions or queries please feel free to continue to either email or text school and we will reply as soon as we are able to.

Many thanks for your continued support and understanding at this challenging time, it is much appreciated.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Helen McLenahan

    Headteacher

  • National Thank a Teacher Day - Wednesday May 20th 2020

Wed 13 May 2020 Mrs Padgeon

National Thank a Teacher Day is a day when we, as a nation, can come together to say Thank You to teachers across the country who make a huge difference to young people's lives - not just now during these unprecedented times - but every day!

With the #ThankATeacher and #HowWillYouSayThankYou hashtags we are encouraging people to share their message of thanks, ideally in a video clip - leading up to the day. This can be in an expression of their choosing - singing a song, writing and or reciting a poem or sharing a picture of a drawing.

You can find more details here https://thankateacher.co.uk/thank-a-teacher-day/
